Lorwyn is one of the most fascinating, mystical, and older worlds created within the Magic The Gathering-universe. Among the many fantasy races that stand out through their unique reinterpretations and designs, it was especially the merfolk of this world that enchanted me. Stories such as The Little Mermaid never truly interested me, and yet I could not help but admire these colorful aquatic beings.

My artwork is strongly influenced by these design characteristics, such as the placement and size of the fins, skin color, and overall temperament. Nevertheless, I chose to make my mermaid appear somewhat more human. The fish surrounding her are intentionally kept simple in design. Their clean lines and simple shapes are meant to make them appear cute, reinforcing the peaceful facial expression and gestures of the mermaid.
