Commander is truly a wonderful Magic: The Gathering format, bringing people together — and with them, a colorful variety of commanders from the farthest corners of the Multiverse. This piece depicts a duel between two beloved commanders from the past: Muldrotha and Gishath.

It was a very ambitious work. I chose a perspective that made both characters particularly difficult to portray. However, this angle and their positioning emphasize the conflict even more strongly, as well as the force behind the elemental’s throwing motion.

The background also subtly suggests who holds the upper hand in this duel: the wave spiraling outward from Muldrotha’s lower body already seems to be swallowing the dinosaur.

Naturally, I stayed closely aligned with the original artwork of both characters in terms of color. However, in hindsight, I had to adapt Gishath’s glowing colors to the bluish ambient lighting and shadows of the environment.
