Fanart: Eldrazi

The Eldrazi are among the most iconic creatures in the Magic The Gathering-universe. Their unique designs, combined with an overwhelming aura of danger and absolute destruction, make them some of the most impressive antagonists in fantasy.

My first attempt at depicting an Eldrazi is heavily inspired by the brood of Ulamog. The long, tentacle-like limbs, paired with multiple intertwined arms, the combination of blue, red, and white tones, and the rounded, head-like plate all distinguish this brood from the others. The piece itself is highly expressionistic. The background is not intended to represent a landscape, but rather to visually complement the subject.

In combination with the dissolving figure depicted above, the artwork is intended as an homage to The Creation of Adam” by Michelangelo. Through this, the Eldrazi are meant to be interpreted as supernatural, almost godlike beings. At the same time, the image also reflects what happens to mortals who dare to touch such creatures.
